Prize Winner: Gilliane Nopere - Anderson Prize for Best Student in Level 3

I arrived in Aberdeen in 2017, ready to start a new chapter of my life. Grades have played an important role for me from the start because good grades is what allowed me to get in Aberdeen in the first place and I did not want to disappoint myself and let down University by not giving my best performance from year 1. Studying in Aberdeen has taught me a lot about myself. It taught me how to be independent, strong willed, organized, and so much more. It has been one of the best times of my life and I had never imagined that I would get such a positive experience before coming here. From the strolls to the beach, to the friends I have made and the extensive student life the university offers, it feels like a living dream.

Receiving the prize means more to me than a recognition for my academic dedication. It boosted my confidence and validated my aspirations. It proved to me that I have made the right life decisions and it motivates me to go further. The prize also makes me feel like I am not just a simple student at university but that the department cares and recognises its students’ efforts. Most importantly, it allowed me to take my revenge on life by proving to myself and those who did not believe in me that I was able to thrive and overcome obstacles that were thrown at me.

My near future plans consist of enjoying my final year in Aberdeen as much as I can while keeping up with academic excellence to end this chapter of my life on a high and pave the way to a successful future in Psychology. Following graduation, I want to pursue a masters degree in the UK to become a Forensic Psychologist.
