Letter of commendation - High quality thesis: Shaun Hegarty
2021-10-20

I felt over the moon to receive a letter commending the high quality of my thesis. I worked hard during the year, and this recognition rounded it off just nicely .

To backtrack a bit, I was drawn to study at University of Aberdeen both for its ranking and seemingly excellence in delivering graduate programmes, as well as the beauty and vastness of the natural environment encapsulating Aberdeen. And I wasn't disappointed. Being rather fearful at first, I became more trusting and believing through the support and guidance of the University, my supervisor, family, and friends, which far exceeded my expectations. I found the PAL and student learning services invaluable. I am truly grateful for the multitude of support I received, and the fruitful learning experiences it gave rise to.

Regarding nature, what can I say, I was blown away by the many beautiful parks, beaches, nature reserves, and generally unspoilt nature. So, if your fond of nature don't think twice . My love for nature was truly enhanced, and it provided safety and peace for me amidst these unprecedented times. Moreover, during the stressful period around choosing a thesis topic, the dolphins of Aberdeen harbour inspired my thesis on nature's influence on well-being and environmental behaviour during Covid-19. The thesis process fuelled my passion for the immense potential connecting to the natural world can have in improving health, as well as nurturing a sustainable healthy environment. Consequently, I aspire to work in an area involving nature connection, which could go in the direction of ecopsychology, but who knows let's see . I'll never forget this past year, which was welcomely packed with adventure, challenge, and learning.....Thank you!!
