I am truly thrilled to receive the School of Psychology’s Anderson Prize for the best-performing Level 3 Psychology student in the 2023-24 academic year. I am proud of myself for this achievement and for taking every learning opportunity on my educational journey. However, I am incredibly fortunate to have had outstanding academic supervisors who supported me, challenged me, provided invaluable feedback, and opened numerous doors for me. I wholeheartedly thank my supervisor, Dr. Rama Chakravarthi, from the Perception Group at the University of Aberdeen. I also want to express my gratitude to my mentors in Canada: Dr. Anita Tusche and Dr. Rémi Janet from the Neuroeconomics Lab at Queen’s University in Ontario, and Dr. Michel-Pierre Coll from the Learning and Pain Laboratory at Université Laval in Quebec.

I am also deeply grateful to my friends, particularly from BECYCLE, our community bike shop in Aberdeen. They warmly welcomed me when I first arrived as a fresher, and with them, I have shared countless memorable experiences, especially in the St. Machar Bar.

Studying at the School of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen has been an invaluable experience for me. I have had the privilege of learning from exceptional professors, especially in perception and social cognition, who are passionate about advancing their fields of research and whom I greatly admire for their dedication and drive. The School of Psychology has not only provided me with valuable insights into a broad range of psychological disciplines but also offered me the flexibility to choose courses from other departments, giving me an interdisciplinary approach to psychological research, as well as the opportunity to participate in study exchanges and research internships in Canada. I cannot stress enough how thankful I am for these opportunities, as they have enabled me to engage in great research projects throughout my undergraduate studies and achieve success both academically and personally.

Veronika is studying an MA in Psychology and will begin their 4th year of studies in September 2024.
