Didem Yurdakul, a Postgraduate student in the School of Psychology has been selected as the winner of the 2024 Experimental Psychology Society, in collaboration with the British Science Association, Undergraduate Project Prize.
Didem, who is supervised by Dr Eva Rubinova won for her undergraduate project which looked at the reliability of repeated lineups and the effect they may have on accuracy and choosing in eyewitness identification procedures. Didem will be presented with her prize by the Psychology Section President at the British Science Festival in 2024.
The Experimental Psychology Society in collaboration with the British Science Association awards an annual prize to the best final year undergraduate project in experimental psychology submitted from a UK psychology honours degree programme.
Dr Doug Martin, Head of the School of Psychology, said: “I’m delighted that Didem, one of our former Undergraduate students and current Postgraduate students has been awarded the Experimental Psychology Society, British Science Association Undergraduate Project Prize 2024.
“This is the first time in the more than 30year history of this prestigious prize that it is has been won by a student from our School. This is an incredible achievement for Didem and her supervisor, Eva Rubinova.”
The purpose of the award is to give public recognition to the excellent scientific work being supported and carried out by able undergraduates within psychology departments. The prize consists of full registration, accommodation and travel expenses to attend the British Science Festival, and £500. Didem will also have the opportunity to deliver a brief talk on the research project at the July meeting of the Experimental Psychology Society at the University of York.
Didem added: “I feel absolutely honoured and beyond excited to have my project not only be nominated for this award but to then learn that we have been selected as winners. It is such incredible news. I cannot wait to be able to present the project at a future EPS meeting.”
