I am incredibly honoured and grateful to receive the Anderson Prize for best performing Level 2 Psychology student.
Having decided to move away from home, my transition to university was a nerve-wracking experience. I worried about living on my own and making new friends in an unfamiliar city, but I found the university to be incredibly welcoming and have gotten to know some amazing people.
My choice to study psychology was motivated by my interest in the factors that make us who we are. Having never studied this subject prior to university, I was nervous that I would be disadvantaged but soon realised this wasn’t the case. In just the 2 years I have been here, I have gained more knowledge and methodological skills than I could have imagined and received an insight into the many branches of psychology I could go into. In particular, I have taken a keen interest in social psychology and how our interactions with one another influence our thoughts and behaviour. Both my positive experience with the School of Psychology and being able to receive this award has reassured me that choosing this degree was the best decision I made!
As of now, I don’t have any concrete future plans although I would love to pursue a career in psychology. As a next step, I am hoping to apply for a research internship and get some hands-on experience.
I am very thankful to the School for being so supportive and I am looking forward to what awaits me during my remaining years at the university!
Jessica will begin their 3rd year in September 2024.
