Since starting my degree at Aberdeen Uni, my interest in Psychology has grown and transformed. While I started out doing a joint degree, my growing interest in Psychology and Medical Science courses made me decide to switch to a single honours BSc Psychology degree, and I’ve grown more and more satisfied with that decision each day!
The last year has certainly been more challenging than I expected. Being a person who likes to be very active, social, and busy, dealing with lockdown and feelings of isolation has been quite the struggle, and has definitely impacted my motivation and stress levels. This year I was also diagnosed with ADHD, and learning about myself, my symptoms and my struggles has been – and still is – a challenge. Because of all this, the biggest lesson this year has taught me is to learn to ask for help without shame, whether it’s from the Uni or from friends. While it’s not an easy task, I’m sure that asking for help when I need it will make next year easier than this one.
Despite the struggles, 3rd year has also brought me joy and satisfaction, and it feels so rewarding to end a challenging year on such a positive note by being awarded the Anderson Prize! It certainly is a good reminder to stop doubting myself and my abilities, even when circumstances are difficult.
As for this summer, I will focus on completing my research internship with the Uni, which I’ve been really enjoying and is teaching me important skills that will come in handy both throughout 4th year and in my future studies. Since I aim to work in academia, I am very excited to put the experience and knowledge gained from this degree to good use in the future!
Camilla will begin her 4th year in September 2021.
