School of Psychology Mission Statement
Our School embraces the University of Aberdeen’s foundational purpose: To be open to all and dedicated to the pursuit of truth in the service of others. We do this by combining excellence in education, world-leading research, and a desire to make a positive difference in addressing global challenges and in our local community.
We strive to provide transformative education that will not only facilitate our students’ next steps but also last them a lifetime. We integrate knowledge of cutting-edge research with the latest educational methods, to ensure our students develop the practical skills and personal qualities that will allow them to thrive wherever their future path takes them.
We conduct world-leading research to advance knowledge and address societal challenges. Our diverse interdisciplinary research team share a passion for discovery, a commitment to open, responsible, and replicable science, and a desire to have a positive impact on everyday life.
We believe in the power of partnership and community engagement. We work collaboratively with industry, non-profit organisations, and local communities to apply our expertise to the real-world issues that affect peoples’ everyday lives.
We are a diverse international community of researchers based in the beautiful North East of Scotland. Around 50% of our academic staff originally come from the UK, around 25% come from various countries in Europe (e.g., Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland), and the remaining 25% come from across the rest of the world (e.g., Canada, China, India, Iran, USA).
We pride ourselves on producing world-class science and education in a supportive, friendly, and collegiate environment. Our overall mission is to cultivate a culture of excellence, innovation, and social responsibility, empowering our students, staff, and partners to make meaningful and lasting contributions to the world.
