Human Beings and Human Doings
The Editorial Board is pleased to invite graduate students (PGR and PGT) to submit papers for consideration in our upcoming journal.
Abstract submission deadline: 3rd of February, 2025.
We are, as a society, becoming more aware of the impact human actions have upon our world. Human actions, our 'doings' are powerful, capable of creating entirely new innovations, or of destroying entire ecosystems. Increasingly we are becoming aware of the impact of past human actions and are attempting to wrestle with the legacy we have been left by the humans of the past. Simultaneously, the question of what it means to be human has arisen, with growing consciousness of the diversity of human embodiment, and a tendency to prioritize the individual perspective and experience.
It is the intention of this journal issue to capture the ongoing conversations in these areas; we are seeking papers which discuss groundbreaking innovation as a result of human ingenuity and action, papers which highlight the legacy and impact of humans in the past, and papers which grapple with the question of what it means to be a human being, in light of our actions and bodily existence. We particularly encourage papers which comment on the past work of Aberdeen University, both the institution and specific scholars, in recognition of the 10th anniversary of the Postgraduate Research Journal at Aberdeen.
We welcome submissions from all disciplines and approaches.
Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
- Ecology and the impact of human actions on our environment
- Technological innovation, including discussions on AI and social media
- Developments in medicine and pharmacology as a result of human action
- The question of what it means to be a 'human being'
- The human impact of National and International conflicts
- Death, dying and grieving
- Innovation within fields such as engineering and architecture, and the impact of said innovation on humans
- Human expressionism and legacy via the arts and languages
- The many diversities of human embodiment and experience, such as gender, race, disability, religion, and LGBTQ+ identities
- Consideration of legacy and learning from the past, in particular we welcome discussions on the legacy of slavery.
