Biography
I am a senior lecturer (associate professor) in economics and finance. My research involves applied economic analysis, with long-standing interest in energy and development economics. A significant aspect of my work comprises economic modelling using constrained optimisation and empirical analysis techniques. I am an expert in GAMS (General Algebraic Modelling Systems) for constrained optimisation modelling involving linear programming, non-linear programming, mixed integer programming, computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling, etc.; Python for machine learning and data science; MATLAB for graphical analysis, genetic algorithm applications, software development, etc.; STATA for econometric analysis and high dimensional data analytics; ArcGIS for GIS analysis, and so on.
At the University of Aberdeen Business School, I am the Director of Online and programme director for the MSc Energy Economics and Finance programme. Prior to joining the University of Aberdeen, I worked as a Research Fellow at the Centre for Energy Economics Research and Policy (CEERP) at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK. Within CEERP, I was involved in high dimensional data analytics and database management towards the publication of the BP Statistical Review of World Energy and the BP Energy Outlook. I am an Honorary Research Fellow at the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen and an Affiliated Member of CEERP. I am also a professional member of the Energy Institute (MEI), a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a member of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). I have published in, and refereed for several high quality international journals including Energy Economics (ABS 3*), The Energy Journal (ABS 3*), Journal of Environmental Management (ABS 3*), World Development (ABS 3*), Energy Policy (ABS 2*), Resources Policy (ABS 2*), Socio-Economic Planning Sciences (ABS 2*) and so on. I serve as external PhD examiner for the University of Dundee.
