Biography
Vaibhav Nougain received a B.Tech degree in electrical engineering in 2017 from Delhi Technological University (Formerly Delhi College of Engineering), and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi, India in 2022. He was a Visiting Student with The Center for Electric Power and Energy (CEE), Technical University of Denmark in 2019.
He was as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Intelligent Electrical Power Grids group at TU Delft, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, from 2023 to 2024. He joined the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, UK as a Lecturer in 2025.
His research interests focus on the operation, protection, and control of power systems interfaced with power electronics, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy integration.
Two EEMCS researchers nominated for Best Climate Action & Energy Paper
Dr Vaibhav Nougain has developed a mathematical model that can pinpoint the location of the fault (where in this line is the failure) within milliseconds. This will save a lot of time and manual labour in locating and then fixing the fault, restoring normal DC power grid operation. Nougain’s breakthrough algorithm works no matter the complexity of the DC power system, or whether it is low, medium or high voltage.
