Biography
I research and teach the history of pre-colonial and colonial Africa and the African Diaspora, with particular emphasis on British colonialism and abolitionism in West Africa. Since joining the University of Aberdeen in 2020 I have also led research on the Legacies of Slavery and North-East Scotland. I was previously Lecturer in Colonial and Postcolonial History at the University of Exeter (2019-2020) and a Commonwealth Rutherford Fellow at the University of Leicester (2017-2019). I completed my PhD in African History at Yale University in 2015.
