Biography
Professor Burgess’s main interests lie in two areas:
(a) German literature from the 17th to the 20th centuries, with special emphasis on the German Baroque, German Classicism, and post-1945 writings;
(b) The life and works of Wolfgang Borchert. The author of standard monographs on Borchert's life and times, Professor Burgess is a founder member and the Vice President (Stellvertretender Vorsitzender) of the Internationale Wolfgang-Borchert-Gesellschaft, based in Hamburg, and co-authors the Society's annual journal (Jahresheft): see http://www.borchertgesellschaft.de.
