Talks and presentationsNumerous talks and presentations have been given in association with the project. In addition, a 12-week Special Subject degree course in the History Department of the University of Aberdeen has resulted in a number of interviews for the project being recorded by senior history students. These interviews, covering a variety of areas associated with the industry will be archived with the main collection for the benefit of future researchers. Project interviewees Edwin Reid and Flora Macdonald have assisted with this course. Schools and the North Sea oil and gas industryOral history workshops for senior Aberdeen secondary school students have been held as part of our very fruitful association with the Aberdeen City Council. As an example of this, and thanks to Project interviewee Captain John Campbell, several former oil and gas industry associated people came together to be interviewed by students in one of these workshops. These interviews, too, will be kept with the main collection. Lorna Dey and Lisa Savijn of the Aberdeen City Council’s Arts and Recreation Department and David Atherton of the Aberdeenshire Council, worked closely with project personnel in organising the workshops. Undergraduate and postgraduate university courses related to the North Sea oil and gas industryRegular senior undergraduate courses have been offered since Lives in the Oil Industry was initiated. The courses, focussed on oral history theory and practice, have often been related to the project and have resulted in a number of interviews recorded by students which will be added to the archive. Postgraduate study opportunities in oral history at MLitt and PhD level are also offered. University of Aberdeen Oil and Gas Industry Research-Related RegisterAn early initiative associated with the project was the compilation of the University of Aberdeen Oil and Gas Industry Research-Related Register. The Register was developed to provide a clear one-stop finding aid for projects related to the industry, whether in the science or humanities areas and aimed at anyone interested in using, or benefiting from the oil and gas-related services of the University. |
