Guidance teachers hear of academic opportunities

Guidance teachers from Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Edinburgh and Glasgow will tomorrow (September 18) learn more about some of the academic opportunities on offer for their pupils at the University of Aberdeen.

Each year the University hosts a conference for guidance teachers to give them an insight into the latest teaching developments and student facilities at the institution.

Visitors will hear the latest on the University’s admissions process and also get an insight the S6@Uni Programme which converts current on-campus undergraduate science courses into online courses and are ideal for S6 pupils looking for further academic challenge.

There will be talks on the Gaelic programme available, as well as an update on the science and engineering opportunities at the University. In addition, there will be a tour of the Suttie Building - the new state of the art facility for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare at Foresterhill.

Lesley Maclennan, Senior Marketing Officer at the University, said: “Our Guidance Teacher Conference has proved to be a very popular opportunity for teachers to come onto campus, meet with academic staff as well as current students and find out about new developments within the University.

“With the high level of University applications, we hope that it will be particularly beneficial for teachers when they are advising young people on the application process to higher education."
