Local photographer launches charity calendar

A local photographer has joined forces with the University of Aberdeen to launch a charity calendar in aid of the University’s breast cancer research programme.

Kelly Duncan, from Portlethen, felt inspired to create her own calendar after lending her photography skills to a similar project two years ago.

After finding herself on the other side of the camera and becoming ‘Miss January’, Kelly decided it was time for the boys to show their support – by showing their flesh.

Kelly teamed up with Aberdeen production team, Premiere Productions, to source some willing male models to shed their clothes in the name of charity.

Having completed the calendar, Kelly is hosting a launch event at city centre cocktail bar Orchid, Bon Accord Square, on Thursday (December 6) from 6pm to 8pm and is hoping local people mix socialising with shopping and snap up the calendars.

“In addition to raising money, my aim with this calendar was ultimately to make women affected by breast cancer smile and maybe the opportunity to have a little giggle during what is obviously an extremely difficult time,” says Kelly.

“There are so many extremely worthwhile causes out there, but I decided that the calendar should be in aid of the University of Aberdeen’s breast cancer research programme as it is local and looks into the after care of women with breast cancer, an issue which is close to my heart.

“I was inspired by my late great aunt Elsie. She would have loved this calendar and no matter what she was going through, she did it with a great personality and this definitely would have put a big smile on her face.”

Professor Steve Heys, added: “The groundbreaking work being carried out by our breast cancer research programme is fantastic, however in order to continue our studies, funding is, of course, extremely important.

“It is always encouraging when individuals feel strongly enough about our cause that they come up with a fundraiser on our behalf. I’m sure Kelly’s calendars are proving very popular and the University of Aberdeen is grateful to her for all her efforts.”
