Student Elections results announced

The results of the annual Aberdeen University Students’ Association (AUSA) elections have been announced.

36 candidates ran for 11 positions in the polls, which saw 2,899 individual students cast a total of 15, 770 votes.

The hotly-contested role of Student President was secured by Anne-Claire Deseilligny.

In her post Anne-Claire will represent the institution’s students on University Committees, and hold overall responsibility for the running of AUSA, among other duties.

The other successful candidates who will represent the University’s student body in areas including sport, education, welfare, societies and equal opportunities, are:

  • President Welfare and Equal Opportunities – Gordon Maloney
  • President for Societies and Student Activities – Emma Carlen
  • President for Sport – Clare McWilliams
  • President for Education and Employability – Josefine Bjorkqvist (Re-Election)
  • President for Charities – Adam Khan
  • Vice President Equal Opportunities – Daphne Heijdelberg
  • Vice President Education – Megan Dunn
  • Vice President Societies – Xander Brouwer (Re-Election)
  • Sports Union Treasurer – Marc McCorkell (Re-Election)
  • Environment and Ethics Officer – Joanna Wilson

Current Student President, Tessa Birley, said: “I am absolutely delighted with the results of the Executive Committee election. It looks set to be a fantastic team next year and I am confident they will represent students well and continue to drive the Students’ Association forward.”

Two remaining Executive positions – Vice President Charities and Foresterhill Convenor – will be run as by-elections during the AUSA Standing Committee Elections.
