Around 250 kids from 10 Aberdeen City schools are competing to win a visit by Edinburgh Zoo Wild Bus.

The primary five, six and seven pupils entered a contest organised by the University of Aberdeen’s Natural History Centre as part of the University’s Word Festival.

The boys and girls had to pick an animal that interests them, explain why in a poem and design a poster depicting the creature.

Three school visits are up for grabs and organisers are delighted at the response they have had.

Marie Fish, Education Officer at the Natural History Centre, “This is the first time we have run a competition for primary pupils and we are really pleased at the response we have had.

“All sorts of animals have been captured on our posters which will all be displayed in the University’s Zoology Museum.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Edinburgh Zoological Society there are three school visits to win in our Amazing Animals contest and the lucky recipients will find out who there are tomorrow at the Word Festival.”

The schools that entered are: Hanover Street Primary; Hazlehead Primary; Bramble Brae Primary; Greenbrae Primary; Culter Primary; St Peter's RC Primary; Cornhill Primary; Riverbank Primary; Danestone Primary and the Holy Family.
