Hundreds of students will have a helping hand in fulfilling their career aspirations as the University of Aberdeen launches its annual Careers Week today (Monday 9 March).
From how to dress to impress for interviews and tips on the perfect CV, to interview techniques and how to cope with the affect the economic downturn is having on recruitment - a host of seminars, workshops and events will take place across the week providing students will the skills they need to get ahead in the job market.
The week is sponsored by marine crane and lifting services contractor Sparrows Offshore, and is open to all students at the University.
A varied programme of day-time workshops aiming to build skills and experience in areas such as taking to employers and writing applications, will held in the Linklater Rooms and Zeste on the University's King's College Campus.
Two evening events will also take place where students will gain one on one advice from key industry figures - a Networking event sponsored by Standard Life and a Dress to Impress event sponsored by international electronics and systems group, Thales.
Janice Montgomery from the University of Aberdeen Careers Service said: "Ensuring our students are equipped with both the skills and experience they require to give them the best headstart possible when entering the job market is absolutely essential. No more so than now in the current economic climate where competition for jobs is higher than ever.
"The Careers Week will provide students with the all important advice they need to get their future career off to a flying start. From tips on how to craft your CV through to the importance of work experience, there are an array of workshops and interactive sessions throughout the week aiming to build confidence and skills. There will also be one on one sessions with real life employers providing a platform for students to practice their skills before they really count in an actual interview scenario."
