Fiona Kennedy to be guest speaker at annual University of Aberdeen Ladies Luncheon

EOver 250 women from throughout the North East of Scotland will attend the year 2000 University of Aberdeen’s Ladies Luncheon to be held at The Marcliffe at Pitfodels on Thursday 21 September 2000.

Guest speaker at the annual fundraiser this year is local singer and broadcaster, Fiona Kennedy. Ms Kennedy joins a cast of illustrious previous speakers: Lady Clare Macdonald (1995), Liz Lochhead (1996), Iain Cuthbertson (1997), Lady Howe (1998), and University Rector, Clarissa Dickson Wright who entertained and captivated her audience last year. Ms Kennedy will talk about all the various aspects of her world and how she manages to balance a very busy life.

Fiona Kennedy was born in Belfast into a theatrical family – her parents are the celebrated Scots singers Anne and Calum Kennedy. Her career as a singer, broadcaster and actor ahs been diverse from presenting over 100 children’s television programme including BBC’s Record Breakers to playing opposite Adam Faith in the West End production of Alfie.

Other credits include presenting BBC Radio Scotland’s “Live at the Lemon Tree”, many productions at the Edinburgh Festival, presenting children’s classical music concerts, and touring with the Scots band, Runrig. She recorded her debut album Maiden Heaven in 1995, and among several public service appointments she is Chairman of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers for Grampian and Moray and a Director of The Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Introduced in the University’s Quincentenary year, proceeds from the event go towards the Student Hardship Fund, with a particular emphasis on international students. So far, the Fund has been able to help students from Ireland, Bangladesh, Finland, Portugal, Greece, Ghana and Jordan.
