ICurrent and future students at the University of Aberdeen owe a huge vote of thanks to students from previous generations who have responded generously to a fund-raising initiative launched in 1998.
Over £500,000 has been raised by the Alumni Annual Fund which established to offer graduates an opportunity to give something back to their Alma Mater by making donations to three main areas: Access and Hardship, Learning Facilities; Resources for Students of Today and Leaders of Tomorrow ;and Research and Development – Serving the Region and World Beyond.
Principal of the University, C Duncan Rice paid warm tribute to the hard work and of the student callers: “I am enormously pleased with the success of the Fund and impressed by the skills and enthusiasm of our student callers. Fund-raising is a team effort and this initiative is an excellent example of the success which a dedicated team can achieve.
“It has also been hugely encouraging to see the willingness of our alumni to be involved and the level of their generosity. Their continuing support of their University will enable us to support our student body in a wide range of ways.”
To celebrate reaching the £500,000 milestone, the Principal has invited five of the most successful student callers to a thank-you ceremony to be held at 4.30pm on Tuesday 26 September in the Court Room, University Office, Regent Walk, Aberdeen.
Those attending are Rachel Cryer, a 3rd year English student from Lancashire; Erin Cuthbertson, a 3rd year Psychology student from Glasgow; Annick Hagemann, a 4th year English and International Relations student from Germany, who has worked for the University’s Development Trust over the summer; Mainga Hamaluba, a 5th year Medical student from the Ivory Coast who has worked on the Fund since it was launched; and Fiona Silver, as 2nd year Medical student from Fife.
A special celebration cake has been commissioned and BT have kindly loaned some classic telephones for the occasion. You are cordially invited to send a photographer/reporter to cover the event
