The University of Aberdeen is hosting the 25th Annual Conference of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) Innovation and Maturity in Energy Markets: Experience and Prospects which starts today Wednesday June 26 - Saturday 29 June.

Many high ranking figures will make presentations at the conference. Key speakers include Vicky Bailey, Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Energy, Robert Priddle, Director General of the International Energy Agency, Tony Hayward, Group Vice President and Treasurer of BP, Lord Nigel Lawson former UK Chancellor of the Exchequer and UK Minister for Energy, and Malcolm Brinded, Managing Director, Royal Dutch/Shell Group. Nearly 100 papers will be presented in plenary and parallel sessions. In addition there will be several poster sessions.

There are five main themes to the conference namely Renewable Energy, The Oil Industry, Natural Gas, The Role of Government and IT and the Energy Sector.

The conference will be opened by Professor C. Duncan Rice, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen. Professor Alex Kemp, Schlumberger Professor of Petroleum Economics at the University of Aberdeen is the Chairman of the conference. The conference brings together nearly 300 energy economists from across the world from government, industry, and academia.

Conference Chairman Professor Kemp said: "We are extremely pleased to welcome delegates from across the world to Aberdeen for the 25th Annual IAEE International Association Conference. Energy continues to feature prominently in the news and policy debates round the world. Oil and gas prices continue to fluctuate, markets liberalise with varying success, security of supply has become a dominant issue in many countries, agreement on policies towards climate change remains elusive, and regulation issues remain unresolved. In short in the energy area there is no shortage of live problems which the conference will address. "
