Staff at the University of Aberdeen Conoco Natural History Centre and Zoology Museum are opening their doors specially this weekend (Sunday December 15, 11am - 4pm) to let both adults and children to see behind the scenes and take part in some fun Christmas craft activities.
Normally only open during the week, the Conoco Natural History Centre and Zoology Museum contain hundreds of samples and specimens from a fascinating variety of natural history.
Visitors will be able to see exhibits in the Zoology Museum of most of the animal kingdom, with numerous skeletons, including whale, gorilla, bear and camel. Scorpions, snakes and all British birds will also be on view. The Conoco Natural History Centre will have lots of specimens that people can handle, including hippo teeth, snake skin, various skeletons and an elephant tail.
In addition to both facilities being open on Sunday, organisers will be hosting a number of Christmas craft activities. On hand to assist will be a number of student volunteers interested in gaining educational experience. Mandy Tulloch, Development Co-ordinator at the Conoco Natural History Centre said; "As we are not normally open at weekends, opening this Sunday will be great as it will let people see a part of the University that they might not usually have time to visit. As well as the special exhibits on show, we are also involving University students who will be showing children some environmentally friendly ideas for Christmas. I think its going to be great fun!"
