The University of Aberdeen building where scientists are involved in pioneering medical research is throwing open its doors to the public on Saturday (September 13).



The Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) - where scientists recently announced new breakthroughs in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and in the fight against superbugs like MRSA and C. difficile - is taking part in Doors Open Day.

The IMS is only open for two conducted tours which take place at 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Visitors will be able to see around labs in the state of the art complex on the health campus at Foresterhill.

While IMS visitors wait for tours they can enjoy musical recitals by University music students which will be given between 11am and 11.30am and then again from 12.45pm and 1.30pm.

Buildings at the Old Aberdeen campus are also taking part in Doors Open Day.

The University's Natural History Centre and the Zoology Museum - both are based at the Zoology Building in Tillydrone - and are open between 10am and 4pm. There will be conducted tours at 10am, 1pm and 3pm.

The Old Townhouse is open between 10am and 4pm where visitors can also see a presentation showing what the University's proposed flagship new £57M library will look like. University librarian Chris Banks will also be on hand.

The University's Special Libraries and Archives in the Old Senate Room is also open for conducted tours that take place at 10am, 11am, 12 noon and 1pm.

King's College Chapel will also be open from 10am to 11.30am and again from 2.30pm to 4.00pm. There will be an organ recital between 10.30am and 11am.
