Law reader receives OBE

An OBE was awarded to a University of Aberdeen academic in the 2007 New Year Honours List.

Mike Radford, a reader at the University's School of Law, received his award for his activities in the field of animal welfare law.

His research interests focus on two areas: the relationship between law and politics in the United Kingdom; and law, regulation and public policy relating to animals.

He has considerable experience of working with politicians, officials, NGOs, and the veterinary profession on animal welfare issues both within the UK and internationally.

Mr Radford is also involved in the management of Dogs Trust, the Humane Slaughter Association, the PDSA and the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare.

He is a member of the Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law Board of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and an honorary vice-president of the Scottish SPCA.
