Winter Concert Series hits stride with top soprano

The University of Aberdeen’s winter concert series gets into full swing this weekend with a performance from acclaimed soprano, Irene Drummond.

Since representing Scotland in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition, Irene has established an extensive international career in concert, oratorio and recital work, with appearances at many international festivals under her belt.

She will perform a varied recital of major songs for Soprano with Piano accompaniment at King's College Chapel at 7.45pm on Sunday, October 7.

"This year's concert series is bigger and better than ever," said Dr Paul Mealor, University of Aberdeen Concerts Coordinator. "Irene has performed at international festivals around the world and we're delighted to now be able to welcome her to King's College Chapel."

Some of the other highlights of the winter season include the newly reformed University Chamber Choir performing a concert of Palestrina; a residency by the distinguished American composer, Morten Lauridsen; a family concert featuring a performance of Peter and the Wolf narrated by the ever-popular Fiona Kennedy, and a whole host of visiting professionals.

Added Dr Melaor, "We also celebrate and engage with contemporary music by linking up again with the Sound Festival and, of course, we continue with our popular Carols for All concerts, again generously sponsored by Total."
