Entries flood in for Blue Skies Thinking – Business Ideas Competition

The University of Aberdeen’s innovative Blue Skies Thinking Business Ideas Competition has received a host of varied entries from students and staff across the University.

All 38 entries, from staff and postgraduate students, were evaluated in The Old Town House last Friday (April 21) by a panel of invited judges from industry and the University.

The titles selected from the staff entries to go forward to Round Two of the competition include ideas for: a reusable thermal food container; Scottish favourites; and Spin safe. The titles chosen from postgraduate students include ideas for: Acorn Tuition; Anti-Slip Strip; The Alternative Prospectus; Emubands; and Alternative Health Direct.

The shortlisted applicants for Round Two will be invited to present their idea directly to the panel of judges on Tuesday, May 2. The prize winners will be announced after the final presentation.

Applicants were first invited to apply to the competition with an outstanding idea and a robust plan that outlined the development of their proposal. Ideas could come from work carried out in the University or from a completely separate activity.

The winning entries in each of the staff and postgraduate categories will receive £2000 and up to £10000 to help get their idea off the ground. Second and third prize winners will receive £1000 and £500 respectively.
