Athena Swan Bronze award for Business School

Athena Swan Bronze award for Business School

The School of Business has been awarded renewal of its Athena Swan Bronze award for its work progressing gender equality.

Advance HE’s Athena Swan Charter recognises commitment to the advancement of gender equality in academic, professional and support roles, through departments and institutions taking action to identify and overcome barriers to career progression for all. There is also a concern for wellbeing issues, which can look different to particular groups of people and increasingly a concern for intersectionality – how one diversity issue interacts, creating further disadvantage, with another.

The School’s successful application was led by Mark Whittington, working closely with Dr Varuni Wimalasiri, Uzoamaka Akinteye and Senior Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Partner, Clare Matysova.

The Athena Swan Bronze Award recognises that an institution or department has an evidence-based action plan and robust governance processes in place to progress gender equality and foster an inclusive environment.

Mark Whittington said: “We are delighted to have achieved a renewal of our Athena Swan Bronze Award, first awarded to the Business School in 2017. It reflects our commitment to embedding EDI principles across the School and to creating an inclusive culture for all. Producing the 76 page report was a massive team effort and we now have the challenge of delivering our plans.”
