Medal for University of Aberdeen Scientist

Medal for University of Aberdeen Scientist

Professor James N'Dow from the Academic Urology Unit at the University of Aberdeen was awarded the St Peter's Medal at a conference last week.

The medal, from the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) is awarded annually to any subject of the British Isles or Commonwealth who has made a ‘notable contribution to the advancement of urology.’ It is the highest honour bestowed by BAUS.

Professor N’Dow, Chair in Urological Surgery, has been with the University for some 22 years and alongside this role is also Adjunct Secretary General for the European Association of Urology, Co-Founder and Managing Director of UCAN, Founder and Chairman of Horizons Healthcare and is Deputy Lieutenant of Aberdeenshire.

Upon accepting the medal, Professor N’Dow said: “I am delighted to accept the St. Peter’s Medal in recognition of the work we do in urology here in Aberdeen and in collaboration with many across the globe.

“I am passionate about evidence-based practice, global health, multicentre randomised clinical trials, large observational studies and Big Data and will continue to strive to ensure the research we do makes a meaningful contribution to the improvement of care received by patients affected by urological diseases wherever they may be. The care they receive must be evidence-based, patient-centred, cost-effective and data driven. This is our responsibility, as doctors and the research we do, to patients and their families and to society at large”.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the University of Aberdeen for supporting urological research, the Academic Urology Unit team members who have worked tirelessly over the years towards a shared purpose, clinical colleagues in NHS Grampian, supporters of UCAN and all collaborators across the globe – their invaluable contributions has made such an award possible".
