Most-cited top scientists list includes three from Business School

Three researchers from the University of Aberdeen Business School have been ranked among the top 2% in a globally recognised science database of citations for the year 2021.

A recently published paper in the journal ‘Plos Biology’ reported on the world’s most-cited scientists, a key indication of the influence of their work on the academic research of others.

Overall the list comprises nearly 36,400 titles from approximately 11,600 publishers and more than 180,000 researchers working across life, social, physical and health sciences.

In total, 111 University of Aberdeen faculty members are on the list for 2021 however Professors Zaheer Khan, Jie Wu and Donald Hislop were listed among the top 2% of researchers from all disciplines in a standardised citation metric.

Professor Khan's research focuses on global technology management, alliances and internationalisation of emerging markets’ firms.

Professor Wu’s research covers status identities and inequality, culture and institutions, innovation and entrepreneurship and internationalisation.

Professor Hislop's research examines how worker's use of new technologies shapes the character of their work. This currently has a focus on artificial intelligence, but also includes mobile communication technologies. Donald also does research on the socio-cultural aspects of knowledge management and learning.

All three have been extensively published.

Professor Keith Bender, the Business School’s Director of Research said: “This is a tremendous achievement. The University and School have a long-standing reputation for research excellence and this list is another indication of how impactful the research developed here influences the research of others.

“The ranking shows the significant research contributions of Zaheer, Jie and Donald to their respective fields and we congratulate them on this achievement.”
