Aberdeen secures bid to host 2019 Knowledge Transfer Partnership Managers Conference

A joint initiative that the University is part of has been successful in its bid to bring the next KnowledgeTransfer Partnership (KTP) National Managers Conference to the North-east for November next year.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a UK Government funded knowledge transfer mechanism designed to increase the competitiveness of the UK's industrial base.

The North of Scotland KTP Centre is a joint venture between the University of Aberdeen, the Robert Gordon University, the University of the Highlands and Islands, Abertay University Dundee, the University of Dundee and the James Hutton Institute.

The North of Scotland KTP Centre, supported by CPD Services at the University of Aberdeen, had their bid to hold the prestigious conference accepted. Representatives from around 160 higher education institutes throughout the UK voted on the bids.

The conference, which will visit Aberdeen for the first time, will take place in the brand new multi-purpose event venue, The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA), followed by a Gala Dinner and evening of Scottish entertainment at Aberdeen & Northern Marts in Thainstone.

Robin Brown, from the North of Scotland KTP Centre, commented: “It is fantastic that the 2019 KTP Managers Conference will be held in Aberdeen. In our bid we highlighted all the brilliant attributes the region has, from the ground-breaking innovation that has happened here such as the creation of the world’s first MRI scanner to the fact that Aberdeen is a prominent driving force in the UK’s economy through expertise in many industries.

“I am sure that everyone who attends the conference will enjoy their visit to Aberdeen, and it is extremely exciting that delegates will get to experience the new state-of-the-art exhibition centre.”

Support from Aberdeen Convention and Events Bureau will allow the University’s CPD Business Development Officer, Jade Murray, to attend the KTP 2018 Conference in Brighton in November, which will provide the opportunity for the North of Scotland KTP Centre to be introduced as the host for the 2019 event. The visit will also give the team an insight into how the event is run and will help with the planning and organising of its own event.
