With a special focus on energy in the Arctic, Professor Tina Hunter and new recruit Daria Shapovalova will present papers at the 9th Polar Law Symposium in Akureyri, Iceland this October.
The Law School at the University of Aberdeen is undertaking a major role in research into the legal issues relating to the Arctic with two academics presenting at the Symposium this year.
- Professor Hunter will present on new approaches to conflict resolution in the arctic in an age of natural resource development.
- Daria Shapovalova will be presenting on Regulatory Legacy of the arctic Council: Assessing Effectiveness and Compliance.
The Keynote Speakers for this year’s symposium include Madeleine Redfern, Mayor of Iqaluit and Chair of the Legal Services Board of Nunavut and Erik Franckx, Professor of Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
