The University of Aberdeen is offering students the opportunity to study towards an MSc in Oil and Gas Innovation for free.

The University  will each offer seven fully funded places to Scottish and EU students in the next academic year, as part of an initiative by the Scottish Funding Council to fund 30 places across five Scottish universities that deliver the programme.

Co-ordinated by the University of Aberdeen, the Masters is a collaboration between the Oil & Gas Innovation Centre (OGIC) and Scottish universities to develop new technologies in exploration, production and decommissioning.

The degree is aimed at graduates and individuals with industry experience or companies with innovative ideas that they wish to develop.

While primarily research-led, the programme will include modules on business innovation and technical modules related to the specific areas of research being pursued by candidates.

Professor Judith Masthoff, from the University of Aberdeen, said that the opportunity for free study is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in playing a part in the future of the oil and gas sector.

She said: “The University of Aberdeen is at the forefront of energy-related teaching and research, and our MSc in Oil and Gas Innovation will equip graduates with the skills to generate and commercialise innovations for the oil and gas industry.

“We are delighted that the Scottish Funding Council has agreed to provide full funding for seven places on next year’s programme, which is available on a full or part-time study basis.

“The oil and gas industry remains a key part of Scotland’s economy, and I would encourage anyone who is interested in playing a part in its future to apply for one of the seven funded places we have available in the next academic term.”
