Rowett Supports Innovation in Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Companies

Food and Drink Award at the tenth Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards took place at a gala dinner at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness on 24th October 2014.

The University of Aberdeen Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health was delighted to be sponsoring again the Healthier Food and Drink Award at the tenth Highlands and Islands Food and Drink Awards.  The awards ceremony, hosted by comedian Fred Macaulay, took place at a gala dinner at the Kingsmills Hotel, Inverness on 24th October 2014 and was attended by more than 300 people.

Dr Alan Rowe, Food and Drink Industry Specialist at the Rowett was delighted to present the award to The Scottish Goatmeat Company based near Keith in Banffshire.  The company has developed an innovative business rearing and supplying goat meat to customers from across the United Kingdom. Their products address a growing demand from health conscious consumers looking for healthier options in their red meat selection.

Dr Rowe commented’ I am delighted that the Rowett Institute has once again sponsored this important award which celebrates success of companies in the region to develop innovative and the high quality products in this fast moving part of the market. ‘

Once again the judges had a challenging task and the Scottish Goatmeat Company faced strong competition from other finalists, Loch Duart Salmon and Buth Bheag Deli. ‘Highland companies have once again shown flair in creating innovative products that are both delicious and healthy and which draw upon the rich diversity of our natural larder.’

The Highlands and Islands Awards showcase excellence across a broad spectrum of food and drink companies in the region with awards in 14 different categories being presented during the course of the evening.
