Robogals take a punt in Cambridge

Punting along the River Cam and a Harry Potter-themed dinner were among the highlights of a trip to Cambridge for the University of Aberdeen's Robogals chapter.

The group travelled to Cambridge to attend the annual Robogals SINE conference, which brings together the organisation's executive committee members in a region, allowing them to share ideas and achievements.

Robogals is an international student-run organisation that aims to inspire, engage and empower young women to consider studying engineering and related fields.

The Aberdeen University Robogals chapter has only recently reformed as an independent society, and the trip was the first opportunity that incoming committee members had to meet other Robogals from across the country.

Zoe Chu was among the group of four Chemical Engineering students who travelled to Cambridge.

She said: “Going to SINE was a great experience that allowed us to meet other Robogals and hone our personal development skills.

“We met the Robogals-Global Executives and got to know the Robogals regional team, who we will be working closely with while we set up the new chapter here in Aberdeen.

“We attended a Harry Potter-themed awards dinner held to celebrate the achievements of other chapters, and because we were in Cambridge we decided that we had to go punting, which was a lot of fun!

“All in all the experience was a very positive one, and gave us some excellent ideas to help us as we set up the new chapter here in Aberdeen.”

Zoe added: “Because it is a new society there is a lot we want to achieve, and we are looking for eager volunteers who can help us by becoming members.

“There are a number of executive positions available, but we would welcome anyone who is interested in promoting young women in engineering.”

Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the Aberdeen University Robogals chapter should email aberdeen.president@robogals.com

The Aberdeen University Women in Science and Engineering (AUWISE) society and Robogals Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 3rd March 6pm, in room 265 of the MacRobert Building.  Anyone with an interest in volunteering for Robogals is invited to attend.  Further details can be found on Facebook
