Leading figures in the field of subsea engineering research came together at the Sir Duncan Rice library last Tuesday (February 2nd), in an event hosted by the University of Aberdeen and organised through the Global Subsea University Alliance.
The workshop – the first of its kind to be held at the University - was linked to a research and development session that took place at the Subsea Expo event at the AECC, and brought together academics from universities across the world.
There were a total of 12 presentations at the event, eight of which were from academics based at the University of Aberdeen. The remaining four came from fellow Alliance members including Bergen University College, the National University of Singapore, the University of Houston and Curtin University in Western Australia.
Professor Ekaterina Pavlovskaia, from the School of Engineering, was appointed as Director of the Global Subsea Universities Alliance last year, and organised and hosted the first ever Alliance workshop at the University.
She said: “The aim of the workshop was to facilitate discussion between Alliance members about possible research collaborations, and the presentations that took place during workshop helped people learn about exciting Subsea research projects ongoing at partner universities and in Aberdeen.
“It was very interesting event that was well attended by academic and research staff, as well as PhD students from the School of Engineering who were given a valuable insight into the range of research being carried out at Aberdeen and other Alliance universities.”
