The second annual Oil and Minerals for Good Conference took place on the 3rd of November in the MacRobert Building. At this conference class cohort, faculty and other delegates examined the trends and new advances that will enable better positive outcomes (good, development) for resource-rich nations and other stakeholders, from the extraction of petroleum and other natural minerals.
This year, the Oil and Minerals for Good course had the MOOC Sustainable Development in SSA embedded.
Some reflections from students who attended the Conference are listed below:
“Preparing for the class conference with my syndicate was an illuminating experience. In the first instance, I gained a deeper understanding of several concepts discussed during the semester. Various topics were no longer isolated from each other but revealed themselves as part of an interconnected, complex framework for the law to do 'good'. The experience additionally offered me an opportunity to work with fellow classmates. This experience sowed the seeds of friendship with persons I had not previously interacted with and for that I am grateful.”
“The Oil and Minerals for Good course was a good opportunity for me to revisit and further understand some of the issues bedevilling the slow growth of developing countries especially my country Nigeria. Not only has the course enlightened me, but has also empowered me to make a difference by looking at ways to enlighten others in my country.”
