Big Noise now in the North! - inspired by "El Sistema"

Top professional musicians from Scotland's national orchestra will contribute to the work of a new social action children's orchestra in the North East of Scotland.

TOTAL and E and P Limited funded the Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s (RSNO) work with children in the Torry community, in support of the Big Noise children’s orchestra, launched in June 2015.

On Thursday 27 August 2015,  RSNO musicians presented the first of their Instrument Petting Zoos – where young children got the chance to play with orchestral instruments.  Over 200 Primary one and Primary Two children from Walker Road Primary School and Tullos Primary School in Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom sang and played in a marquee on playing fields at Girdleness Road, Aberdeen.  The childrens' family members were joined by Aberdeen's Lord Provost, a Scottish Government Minister and a representative of the Venezuelan Embassy to applaud the performance.

Sistema Scotland’s work is inspired by the example of Fundación Musical Simón Bolívar – a Venezuelan social programme founded by Maestro José Antonio Abreu. “El Sistema” as it has come to be known, believes the symphony orchestra and the choir are instruments of social change and community development.

Big Noise Torry is Sistema Scotland’s third orchestra centre, joining Raploch, Stirling and Govanhill, Glasgow and is delivered in partnership between Aberdeen City Council and the charity Sistema Scotland.

Sistema Scotland is a charity registered in Scotland no: SC039119.
