More phishing emails received
What is happening?
The University of Aberdeen is receiving a large amount of phishing and virus emails.
Example subject lines have included:
- Duplicate Payment Received
- Your mailbox is full
What should you do?
These phishing emails are sophisticated and can contain details that deliberately mimic University contacts. Please be aware these spam emails are designed to harvest login details.
Some of the emails include word attachments. The word attachment contains a macro based “zero-day” virus embedded within. We strongly recommended when opening Office documents that you DO NOT click to enable macros.
The safest solution is to not respond or open any links / attachments. Please delete these from your Inbox and if in doubt, please email the Service Desk but do not include any attachments.
