4th Annual Quality and Safety in Healthcare Event "Resilience in Healthcare: A Human Factors Approac

The 4th Annual Quality and Safety in Healthcare Event took place at the Suttie Centre on Monday 25th May. The event centred on the theme; 'Resilience in Healthcare: A Human Factors Approach.'

The event is a collaboration between the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and NHS Grampian. Delivery of Care Programme Director, Professor Lorna McKee, is on the organising committee and also chaired the event.

Professor McKee had the honour of introducing plenary speaker Dr Kevin Fong, Kevin is a Consultant Anaesthetist at University College London Hospitals. He holds degrees in astrophysics and medicine and a Masters degree in Astronautics and Space Engineering. Kevin’s talk was titled ‘Life, Death and Mistakes.’ Also speaking at the event was Professor Rhona Flin, Professor of Applied Psychology and Director of the Industrial Psychology Research Centre of the University of Aberdeen and Mr Manoj Kumar, Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon and Professor Rona Patey, Consultant Anaesthetist for NHS Grampian.

The morning and afternoon were broken down in to four breakout sessions covering the areas; person-centered, safe, quality and effective. Topics covered in the breakout sessions were Child Healthy Weight, Sepsis 6 in Paediatric Emergency Department, Patient Stories: Our Experience and Patient Experience of the Grampian Eye Health Network.
