The Centre for Energy Law of the University of Aberdeen is organising a session at All-Energy 2015, the UK’s leading annual exhibition and conference for the renewable energy sector. The session, Changing Legal Frameworks for Renewables, brings together leading academic commentators on law and the low carbon energy transition including Dr Olivia Woolley and Dr Abbe Brown of the Centre for Energy Law, Dr David Toke of the University of Aberdeen’s Department of Politics and International Relations, Professor Aileen McHarg of the University of Strathclyde, Professor Peter Strachan of Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen and Navraj Singh Ghaleigh of the University of Edinburgh.
The session will be chaired by Greg Gordon, Senior Lecturer and Co-Director of the Centre for Energy Law. It will cover topics of strong current interest for the renewables sector including how the European Union’s recently agreed policy framework for climate change and energy from 2020 may affect the growth of renewable energy production, recent developments in legal frameworks for community energy in the UK and Scotland, and the ramifications for financial support for renewable energy of the European Commission’s requirement that Member States of the EU should start to introduce competitive bidding processes for subsidies. The presentations will be followed by audience questions and a panel discussion.
The session will take place between 3.30pm and 5pm on Thursday 7 May.
