Members of the Centre for Transport Research led a study for the UK Department for Transport (DfT) to understand the determinants of business travel. The study consisted of an international literature review and interviews with trade bodies and umbrella organisations. The study developed a new way of categorising the travel generated by organisations, and developed a conceptual model of the determinants of travel demand and related policies and procedures at the organisational level. The research also assessed whether it might be feasible to meaningfully segment businesses to inform engagement strategies and policy designed to encourage more sustainable travel practices.
