'Facilitating Workshops' training session for DoC staff within HSRU.

Professor Lorna McKee (Professor of Management and Programme Director of the DoC Programme) recently developed and ran a 'Facilitating Workshops' training session for DoC staff within HSRU.

With input from Dr David Steel (former Chief Executive, Quality Improvement  Scotland, Honorary Senior Research Fellow, HSRU), Marion Malcolm (Business Improvement Specialist/Business Manager, HSRU ), and Professor Holger Pfaff (Honorary Senior Research Fellow, HSRU and RSE/ Caledonian Visiting Fellow, University of Cologne), the two hour interactive session focussed on thinking critically about how to run and manage productive and successful workshop sessions with key stakeholders groups such as patients, health professionals and policy makers. Many useful tips and reflections on process were shared and the session was very well received by participants as the following feedback demonstrates:

"I found it very helpful to hear examples and tips from people with experience of facilitating workshops with different kinds of groups";

"It convinced me of the value of a good warm up 'icebreaker' session - clearly worth allocating time to!"

"The take home message for me was 'preparation, preparation, preparation’”
