University continues to climb world rankings

Following-on from success in the QS rankings published in mid-September, The University of Aberdeen has risen 10 places in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings published yesterday evening (October 1).

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings rates the University as 178th in the world, up from 188th in 2013.  Nationally, the University has risen from 28th to 26th in the UK and maintained a position of 4th in Scotland, against a backdrop of a large number of UK institutions falling in the rankings.

This follows on from success in the QS World University Rankings published last month which rated the University as 137th in the world, 24th in the UK and 4th in Scotland.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings use 13 separate performance indicators to examine a university’s strengths against all of its core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen, said:  “The University of Aberdeen continually strives to be ranked among the world’s top institutions of learning and research, providing an unrivalled student experience and research which makes a difference in the world.

“It is gratifying to see that this commitment has been recognised in the Times Higher Education World Rankings, the latest in a series of league tables which are all calculated using different criteria and indicators, in which we have risen 10 places.

“This does not make us complacent however, and we will continue to add further benefit to the student experience at Aberdeen and to welcome to north-east Scotland the brightest and best from around the world.”
