Artists, Academics and Ancient Texts Performance Workshops

Dr Lisa Collinson, a postdoctoral research fellow working on the North project, Pathways to Power: The Rise of the Early Kingdoms of the North, has been awarded an Arts and Humanities Research Council Collaborative Skills Development Grant, to organize and lead a series of four workshops in Scotland and the North of England.

PhD students and early career researchers from five institutions and a wide range of arts and humanities backgrounds will explore the potential of ancient texts to act as bridges between past and present, by treating them as things both produced and read in performance. Throughout, Lisa will work alongside artist Ruth Barker.

An initial three-day workshop will be held at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow, and one-day follow-up workshops will be held in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Newcastle, each culminating in a scratch performance.

Participants will be drawn from the University of Aberdeen, Newcastle University, the University of Glasgow, Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. For more details, please see the call document which is currently being circulated, or email l.a.collinson@abdn.ac.uk

To apply, please send a short biography (200–300 words) to l.a.collinson@abdn.ac.uk by Friday 20 June 2014. Please include information on which workshop(s) you would like to attend. (We would like as many participants as possible to attend both the CCA workshop and one follow-up event, but recognize that this will not be possible for everyone.)

Applications will be reviewed by our project board, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 4 July 2014.
