World rankings confirm University courses among the world's best

World rankings published today place the University of Aberdeen among the world's elite universities for the quality of courses it provides.

In twelve subjects on offer at Aberdeen, the University is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Featured for the first time within the top 150 is English Language & Literature. Economics is now in the top 200, and Philosophy has jumped from the top 200 last year to now within the top 150.

The University’s programmes in Medicine, Law, History, Environmental Sciences, and Geography are all within the top 150 in the world.  Pharmacology, Sociology, and Politics & International Studies are all in the top 200. Forestry remains within the top 100.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said “Once again we have confirmation of the academic strength of programmes on offer at Aberdeen, and how well we benchmark against leading universities around the world.

“Students coming here know that they will reap the benefits in their future careers of being taught programmes ranked among the world’s best, by outstanding and dedicated academic colleagues.

“Combined with our ongoing investment in campus facilities, and the welcome and support we give all newcomers to our Aberdeen family, we know that we offer a student experience second to none.”

For this third edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, 3,002 universities were evaluated, and 689 institutions ranked.

The QS World University Rankings® by Subject  looks at three indicators:  Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Citations per Paper. Weightings are not applied evenly between indicators for different disciplines and are based on publication patterns and level of employer interest in the given subject area.
