Hat trick of wins for Aberdeen Sports Village at National Fitness Awards

Aberdeen Sports Village's reputation as one of the UK's premier sports facilities has been further bolstered after it picked up a trio of wins at the prestigious National Fitness Awards.

ASV came out top in Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym of the Year, Scottish Gym of the Year and National Gym of the Year.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday (6th December) at the Palace Hotel in Manchester. The annual awards, organised in partnership with Service Sport, is a celebration of excellence throughout the whole of the health and fitness industry.

David Beattie, chief executive at Aberdeen Sports Village said: “We are absolutely delighted and overwhelmed to have won all three awards. Being recognised for the facilities and services we provide is a great testament and a strong reflection of the team’s dedication and hard work.”

The Local Authority/Leisure Trust Gym of the Year award was open to all facilities managed by local authorities or leisure trusts. ASV secured the win for its continued commitment to providing customers with world class sport and exercise opportunities, and its significant investment in providing new facilities.

ASV provides state-of-the-art training facilities and coaching to those training for national sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games and World Championships. This is set to continue with the development of the £22million Olympic standard Aquatics Centre, due to open in early 2014.

ASV also came away with the award for Scottish gym of the year, thanks to its excellent progress in member recruitment, retention, and implementation of individual fitness programmes, improvements to facilities and staff training. The winners of each gym category were automatically entered of The National Gym of the Year, with ASV once again coming up trumps.

Mr Beattie continued: “At ASV, we strive to continuously improve the standards of our facilities for our users.  The new Aquatics Centre will allow us to provide high quality training facilities for elite swimmers to train and give people of all ages and abilities in the community the chance to enjoy water-based activities. The superior facilities will also enable the North East to play a key role in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.”

ASV has welcomed a number of major sporting events to the North East, including international football matches and netball tournaments. Since opening in 2009 ASV now offers over 80 clubs and classes, and provides the greatest number of fitness activities in the city.
