This year's Offshore Europe has been the best ever for the University of Aberdeen, with the team at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre engaging with hundreds of visitors from business, government and agencies over the four-day show.
Organisers hailed this year’s event a great success, with attendance of over 60,000, compared to 48,000 in 2011.
University Principal Professor Sir Ian Diamond paid tribute to the work of his team, saying: “This has been a tremendous week which has further established the University as a key player in the energy industry and in addressing the challenges it faces.
“Our experts in training, careers, research and innovation have done non-stop business, developed existing relationships and made many new ones, and have many exciting opportunities to follow up. In addition to hundreds of enquiries on career development and training we have discussed new research collaborations and received much interest in our spin-out companies which are commercialising clever ideas from University researchers.”
Highlights of the University’s participation included:
- The launch of the Aberdeen Institute of Engineering, and appointment of John Scrimgeour as Director, www.abdn.ac.uk/aie
- Aberdeen petroleum engineering students winning the inaugural SPE Euro Petro league
- Launch of a new Masters course in Oil & Gas Computing, to plug an identified skills gap in the industry
- Joint promotion with Senergy of the first flexible MSc in Petrophysics and Formation Evaluation
- Visit of Business Secretary Vince Cableto the University campus for discussions with Professor Diamond and to view research projects
- An enthusiastically-attended reception at exploHUB, the joint industry-academia hydrocarbon exploration training facility on the University campus,
- A brand-new issue of energeia ,featuring research with major commercial potential for the industry, including resonance-enhance drilling
- A new prospectus of Masters courses in energy-related science, law and business subjects
