From July to December 2024, through the Education for Peace and Security Initiative (EPSI), Dr Manu Lekunze worked with the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development of Kwara State, Nigeria, to develop a comprehensive Education for Peace Strategy for the state.
This strategy provides clear objectives and actionable steps for the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development to leverage education as a tool for promoting holistic security in Kwara. Manu participated in the strategy’s launch on 11th December 2024 in Ilorin, Kwara. Following the launch, he conducted a training session for 160 education administrators and teachers, emphasising education's crucial role in fostering national security.
While in Nigeria, Manu also addressed the forum of Nigerian Education Commissioners, underscoring the importance of education in strengthening national security. This aligns with Dr Lekunze's ongoing work of advising governments on how to utilise education to enhance national security.
EPSI was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) through the DEPA Project at the Open University.
