We have exciting projects advertised in the new round of TARGET - the Training and Research Group for Energy Transition Mineral Resources, a UKRI NERC sponsored Centre for Doctoral Training
TARGET is a Centre for Doctoral Training that supports the training and development of researchers engaged in the challenge of meeting the changing patterns of resource demand. As we move away from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, and as the technology we use at home and at work evolves, we need greater amounts, and an increasingly diverse list of metals and minerals. Many of the materials we need are critical, with significant risk of disruption to their supply.
At the Geography department at the University of Aberdeen, we have three exciting projects open for competitive applications:
- Low-emission value chain for mineral processing facilities through renewable energy integration (Dr. L Sam)
- Local monitoring of low-enthalpy geothermal resources in flooded mines using hydrogeophysical and citizen science methods to foster energy citizenship (UKGEOS observatory, Glasgow) Dr. JC Compte and Dr. P Duffy
- Environmental and social sustainability of critical mineral extraction in Greenland (Dr F Wartmann and Prof. T Potts)
And one project in our Geology department:
- Mineral prospect imaging and mining environment monitoring using innovative seismological deployments and data processing (Dr. D Cornwell with CASE partner SmartSolo)
The projects are open for applications now, for full details and how to apply please refer to the TARGET website for information.
