AUCEL researchers participate in the 8th UEF Law School Energy Transitions conference in Finland

Dr Thomas MuinzerDr. Tomilola Akanle Eni-ibukun  and Soibi Bob-Manuel participated in the 8th University of East Finland (UEF) Law School Energy Transitions Conference, which took place from the 28th to the 30th of June 2024.The conference, hosted by was UEF Law School, in collaboration with the Centre for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law (CCEEL) and Marie Curie Doctoral network “Training for a Hydrogen Economy based Renewable Energy Society in the Anthropocene” (THERESA)), was well-attended by prominent energy law academics and practitioners from around the world. 

Dr. Thomas Muinzer presentation titled “Climate Litigation and its Relationship to Climate Law”  was part of the Energy Disputes, Arbitration, and Investments session, which was chaired by Kelsey Pailman. He shared findings from his ongoing book project on Climate Litigation, focusing on the linkages between decided cases and the growth of climate law and jurisprudence.

Dr. Tomilola Akanle Eni-ibukun's presentation, titled “Is the Energy Transition Good For The Environment?” was well-received at the Energy Transition session, which was chaired by. Dr. Madeline Taylor. It provided an overview of her ongoing research on the environmental impact of climate action. The presentation emphasised the necessity to reconsider the research of issues related to environmental concerns for climate action.

Soibi Bob-Manuel's presentation was also part of the Energy Transition session. Her paper titled, “Triple Threat-Climate Change, Technology Transfer and Regime Fragmentation in Africa,” provided valuable insights into the challenges of fragmentation for Low-Income Developing Countries, with a specific focus on the case study of Nigeria. She highlighted the implications of fragmentation in the international legal framework for climate change technology, creating obstacles to widespread diffusion within the national context.
